Why Can’t I be you?

This week at Don’t Pick the Flowers blog, I have a few new pieces of artwork to share. The first is guest art for PJ Day, creator of the comic Flatt Bear. He is on vacation and asked a few of his cartooning friends (yes, including me) to cover in his absence. Here is my take, with Suzanne and Claudia giving Duffy the bear a makeover. I’m glad PJ asked me be a guest on his website, he has a great comic and I’m glad he got a chuckle out of my comic. Next on the list, I have finished a commission I had mentioned in an earlier blog. This is my cartoonish take on Robert Smith of The Cure from “Why Can’t I be you” video. I will have prints available if you would like to order one. I am planning to open an Etsy shop to make it easy to purchase one. Last, but not least, here is a sketch I drew of Peter Murphy on his birthday (Born July 11, 1957). Peter is the legendary lead singer of Bauhaus, Dali’s Car, and (now) Solo artist.Peter is considered the Godfather of Goth music.

Sketches and more Sketches

Hello everyone, wow it has been a while since I last posted a blog, (once again). It looks like I have quite a few drawing to share from the sketchbook and a Mother’s Day special comic (that shows you how long it’s been since the last blog).  If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter or Tumblr you may have seen some of these, if not, here are new drawings for you to look at. The Mother’s Day comic was posted on every social network and GoComics. I do have a few surprises coming up which I will post soon. I have created some guest comics for fellow cartoonists; I love all of these cartoonists and their comics. A commission artwork I am close to finishing and eager to share. MothersDay2014

This is the one panel comic I drew for Mother’s Day 2014. I wanted to tie in my three main characters without showing Suzanne and Vincent’s mom. This was posted at GoComics and via Social Media sites but not on Don’t Pick the Flowers website.

Up above, and from the sketchbook: Top left, in celebration of Vincent Price’s birthday I sketched this drawing. I’m a huge Vincent Price fan and was pretty happy with the outcome. Next, with the same purpose in mind, I sketched Siouxie Sioux of Siouxsie and the Banshees on her birthday. Bottom right is a sketch of Brian Eno. I drew this on his birthday. I love Brian Eno, he is a genius! Last, on the bottom left is Rik Mayall, and I drew this on the day of his passing in tribute to him.

Bearman Cartoons and X-tra Sketches

Bearman-Cartoons-Charity-Challenge-2014This week at Don’t Pick the Flowers blog I want to draw attention to Bearman Cartoons Charity Challenge and his generous heart for giving. . Last year at this time I posted a blog featuring Bearman himself which you can read here: www.dontpicktheflowers.com/blog/?p=4271 . Bearman is donating his own money to give to worthwhile charities  of his choosing which are 1: Cincinnati FreeStore FoodBank 2: Brandon C Gromada Head and Neck Foundation 3: Crayons to Computers. And here is how it works:

  • $10 – For any cartoonists who uses ME (Bearman) in a cartoon in their strip.  Use “BEARMAN” somewhere in the toon.  Maybe it’s a character’s name, a name on a bar sign in the background, integrating my green haired gravatar into a background character or even loosely as “Check out that Bear, man!”  Be sure to link back to this post so I know to include you in my tally.   I know some of you work with a buffer so if you plan to post after May just contact me and let me know and I will add it to the list.
  • $5 – Blog about my challenge to your readers and link back to this entry in your post – http://beartoons.com/2014/04/29/bearman-cartoons-charity-challenge-2014/
  • $1 – Circle/Follow me on Google Plus – http://googleplus.beartoons.com.   Currently I have 70,495 followers.

Spidey Blog

Hello, it has been a few weeks since I last posted a blog, which leads me to share a few new sketches here at Don’t Pick the Flowers. It’s easy to catch them going through your news feed if you follow me on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, or Pinterest. Some of the sketches end up on the Don’t Pick the Flowers Facebook Fanpage, but not all of them. I like to post them here to archive artwork from my personal sketchbook, and in case, you did not see them or would like to view them again.

 

OreoCheesecakeFirst, you may be wondering why there is a picture of a delicious piece of cheesecake. I recently created artwork for a cookbook featuring Suzanne, Vincent and Duck with a recipe with fellow cartoonists at GoComics Sherpa with their respective characters and recipes. The book is being compiled as we speak, and once it is published, I will make sure to post a link here and via Social Media so you can purchase your own “comic” cookbook. You will have to purchase a copy (at a low and reasonable price) to see the finished work. Believe me it is going to be worth it, and maybe I will post part of the artwork as a teaser.

The first sketch is a cartoon-ish version of Robert Smith with a stick figure of Vincent based on a song by The Cure called “Lullaby”. I really love this sketch as it has a fairy tale feel to it.

The next sketch is of Vincent and Duck, which I am calling “Wonka Style”, and based on Tim Burton’s movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Painted Eggs from this years Easter holiday. I wanted to create something a little different and special, so I painted Suzanne, Vincent and Duck on Easter Eggs. I love these eggs, but hey they have been eaten by now.

Last but not least, this is a humorous sketch comic I did for Earth Day. This is based on planting a piece of Robert Smith’s (The Cure) hair into a flowerpot. And what do you get . . . Bob Flowers! You may be familiar with The Cure album “Blood Flowers” . . . heehee, right?
